Year 3 – Kestrels
Welcome to Kestrels Class!
Year 3 sees children start their journey into Key Stage 2. They have new things to learn and new ways to do things but we'll be there to help them. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please come and speak to us.
Key Information
- The Year 3 teachers are Mrs Samuels, who will be teaching Monday - Thursday, and Mrs Smith who will teach on Fridays.
- The Teaching Assistants are Mrs Clewley who will be in class on Monday and Tuesday and then Miss O'Nions will be with us from Wednesday - Friday.
- PE will usually take place on Mondays and another day that hasn't been fixed just yet! Their PE kit should include warm joggers as we will try to be outdoors if the weather allows. Please could the children also remove their earrings on PE days. However, if that isn't possible, please could they bring surgical tape to put over their earrings.
What are we learning about now?
For the next two terms we'll become immersed in the world of the Vikings. Where did they come from? What did they want? How did they fight? What were their houses like? What stories did they tell? Are there any things that people think they know about the Vikings that aren't actually true? We'll find out the answers to all these questions and more!
Homework
This year, the homework expectations are that children read with an adult five times a week. If they achieve this, then they will be entered into the reading raffle. We think reading anything is a good thing: comics, novels, picture books, instructions, books about animals, space, dinosaurs...Let us know what you've read together and if it was any good!
It will also be useful if children could practise their multiplication facts using TT Rockstars. Just five minutes a day will make all the difference.
Spellings will be given out on Mondays, ready for a test the following Monday.
If you would like other activities to do at home, take a look at the ideas on the optional homework grid. We'd love to see what you get up to!
