Design and Technology
Intent
Our intention for our DT curriculum is that pupils will understand the design process and appreciate how everyday objects have been created following this. Our curriculum has been planned with the intention of developing children’s practical and evaluative skills as they move up through the school. Through DT, we aim for our pupils to become creative, imaginative and reflective problem solvers
Implementation
We base and plan our DT learning around each year group’s Learning Journey. Each year, pupils undertake three DT projects, one of which is food related. For each project, pupils work with the idea of ‘designing something, for someone, with some purpose’. Through the project, they will work through the design process:
Evaluating existing products
Generating possible designs
Selecting a final design
Making their final design
Evaluating the end project
As part of each project, pupils will learn a practical skill that is integral to the completion of the project.
Impact
Our pupils will leave us with an understanding of the design process and the skills and knowledge needed to design and make functional products.
