Welcome to Buzzards! (Year 3 & 4)
Year 3 is an important, exciting and fulfilling step on your child's journey through Salehurst C.E. School, as they enter Key Stage 2. Our aim in Year 3 is to increase the children's confidence, both in terms of their learning skills and emotional resilience.
In Year 3, every child is given the opportunity to meet their potential across the curriculum at their own pace. We provide rich learning opportunities that stimulate and broaden the children's knowledge, skills and understanding.
Our curriculum is topic based. This year, our first topic in Autumn Term is 'The Romans' followed by 'Mountains and Volcanoes' which links well with our class text 'Escape to Pompeii'. In the Spring Term we will be learning about 'Anglo-Saxons' and study of a' European Country', and finally, in Summer Term we will learn about 'Woodland in our local area', as a whole school topic.
We aim to include an educational visit or enrichment day for different topics throughout the year which will immerse the children in their learning.
Key Information
Teacher - Mrs Goodman
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Bird
- PE will usually take place on Mondays and Wednesdays but please could they keep their kit in school all week. Their PE kit should include warm joggers as we will try to be outdoors if the weather allows. Please could the children also remove their earrings on PE days. However, if that isn't possible, please could they bring surgical tape to put over their earrings.
- We are always available to talk to parents about any concerns or questions they may have after school. You can leave messages at the office for us, which are passed on promptly to us in the classroom.
Home Learning
Reading
Children should read to an adult at least 3 times a week. We aim to check reading packs at the beginning of the week and read any comments that have been made. This is also when children change their colour banded books. Free readers can change their books at anytime.
Once children have read 5 times, they can enter the reading raffle with their signed slip.
Spellings
From term 2 children will have weekly spellings sent home. Children should try and practise these as often as possible. The spellings will consist of spelling patterns and common exception words.
Times tables
In year 3 children will have a weekly times table test to help build maths fluency. Children have been given a login for Times Tables Rockstars where they can practise their times tables in a fun way. From Term 2, they will also be given a sheet to practise with at home. Once they have mastered their times tables they will move onto the next set.
