Owls Class - Reception & Year 1
Welcome to Reception and Year 1

Where learning is child’s play!
In Owls we want children to develop a real love for learning. We will provide exciting and inspiring opportunities that allow children to explore, create, develop, grow and thrive. We want the children to become independent learners who think critically and challenge themselves. But most of all we want the children to have lots of fun and enjoy the start to their school life!
Terms 5 and 6
Our topic this term and next will focus on farms and the natural world. The children will learn about different types of farms and the produce that comes from them, helping them to understand where food comes from and how it is grown. We will also be learning about a variety of farm animals and their roles.
As part of our science learning, we will explore animal families and learn about life cycles, with a focus on frogs and hens. The children will begin to understand how these animals grow and change over time, and will have opportunities to observe and discuss these changes.
We are also very excited to be doing some hands-on learning. The children will plant their own seeds and learn how to care for them as they grow. In addition, we will spend time outdoors looking closely at wildflowers, helping the children to develop their observation skills and appreciation for nature.
Parents as partners
We encourage parents to talk to their child about the learning they have been doing and you will receive regular emails and letters to keep you informed of the learning focus and key information. We also love to hear about what your child has done at home so please share their achievements by sending some photos of their special moments. We will then be able to display them in the class and then add these to the learning journeys.
