Welcome to Eagles Class!

We like to work hard and have fun in Eagles Class. Working as a team enables us to make more friends, encourage each other and work to ensure that all children fulfil their potential.

Although children in Year 6 will be completing their SATs tests (a statutory requirement for all children in Year 6), we want everyone to enjoy their last year in primary school.  Our goal is that all children leave us happy and confident (academically, socially and emotionally) to then continue their learning in secondary school.  Children are, as always, encouraged to do their best in whichever learning activity is taking place; we expect this in all their social activities also.  

As a class and a school, friendships are constantly worked on with reminders that to have friends, you also need to be a friend and display all of those qualities that you wish to see in your friends.  We talk and learn about e-safety, how to stay safe online, appropriate behaviour and having time away from screens.

Resilience and independence are also qualities that we encourage.  The resilience to keep trying and that mistakes are opportunities to learn from, while independence in preparing all that they need for school, for example ensuring that they have all the equipment necessary for a successful day at school; that homework is completed and that they can complete tasks independently.  However, we make it clear to the children that we are are always here to  help whenever they feel that they need it.  

Reading.

The importance of reading for pleasure cannot be overstated.   We love to read to the children and believe that this helps to foster a love of reading; the sight of a child's face as they become engrossed in a good book is wonderful.  Children are also expected to read and discuss the text 5 days a week to an adult at home, with that adult signing the child's Reading Journal each time.  This is important for children to continue to build their comprehension skills.  Each week we expect that they will have a Reading Raffle ticket (again signed by parents) in the draw to win their choice of book.   readtheory.org  is a free website with small pieces of texts that children can use to improve their comprehension skills.

Homework. Weekly homework of Maths and spellings are set on a Friday, this will be via TTRS or Spelling shed.  We encourage children to ask us about anything that they are finding tricky. If you are finding it hard to access the learning via the apps please let me know and I can arrange a paper copy for you.

Summer Term.

Our topic this term is based around the Ancient Greece:

This term, our pupils will be exploring the fascinating world of Ancient Greece, learning about its rich history, influential ideas, and lasting impact on modern society. Alongside this, in Geography, we will be studying mountains and earthquakes, helping children to understand how our planet is shaped and how natural events occur. Through these topics, pupils will develop their knowledge of both the past and the physical world, while building key skills in enquiry, critical thinking, and curiosity about the world around them.
