Year 5 – Hawks

Philippians 4:13 Good News Translation (GNT) of the Bible.

“I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me."

Welcome to Hawks Class!

Teacher - Mrs. Feeley

Teaching Assistant - Mr. Eaton.

Year 5 is a year to embed all of the knowledge learnt in lower Key Stage 2; a year to start the preparations for transition to secondary school.  Increasingly, children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning: to do their homework, to pack their school bag, to remember their PE kits. As a result, they develop and grow. It is about encouraging independence in preparation for bigger things to come.

The children learn to work as a team, learn from each other, become independent thinkers and learn from their mistakes; enabling confident young learners for life.

Reading.

Children are encouraged to read for pleasure, at least 3 times a week.  Reading for pleasure encompasses a wide range of genres of both fiction and non-fiction.  Children are required to have a deep understanding of what they have read as well as being able to decode the text.  To aid your child, please question their reading. We also use Readtheory.org as a supporting aid to reading and children are encouraged to use this in addition to reading a good book.

Homework. Weekly homework of maths, grammar and punctuation and spellings is set on Google Classrooms on Fridays and due in the following Friday.

Autumn Term.

Our topic this term is 'Surviving the Stone Age', centred around the book Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver.  Below is the topic web that details the learning from this topic.
