VE DAY
To commemorate VE Day on Friday, 8th May, our Key worker children have been busy making bunting, which is proudly displayed on our fence. We remember those that didn't come home and who are remembered on the Robertsbridge War Memorial: Private Thomas Norman Jolley, Private Percy Goldsmith, Leading Signalman Jim Marden, Sergeant Jack Victor Raymond Woodgate, Flight Lieutenant Alan Amies, Lance Corporal Richard Charles Walter, Corporal Henry Underhill, Lieutenant Commander William James Mainprice, Assistant Steward Alan William George Lewis, Private Roy Willard, Gunner Douglas George Farley, Sergeant H. Brooks, Aircraftman Denys Humphrey Nook and Private D.C. Russell.
RAINBOW STAINED GLASS HEARTS
At the end of March, the chemotherapy units of the Conquest Hospital, Hastings, and the District General Hospital, Eastbourne, moved into East Sussex College in Eastbourne. They have taken over what was the beauty school - this means there are many many mirrors! A request went out for rainbow pictures or inspirational quotes to cover the mirrors with. The other week, some of the Keyworker children in school created some beautiful rainbow stained glass hearts, which were sent to the unit. We received a lovely email from the Matron of the unit, along with a photo of the hearts put up in the unit:
Good afternoon,
I just wanted to say a huge thank you and to let you know that the hearts your children have made have been received (I have attached a photo).
What an absolutely lovely thing for you all to have done.
Thank you so very much for adding more colour to our patients and staffs environment, it is so very much appreciated.
Kind regards

It's not just children that have fun at Salehurst!

Falcons took part in a virtual Lego/junk modelling Easter competition. Well done to all those that took part.
Buzzard's chicks are here!
Nature on our door step. Hawks class have been taking photos of nature whilst working from home.
Nature awakening! The bulbs and trees that we planted back in November are starting to make an appearance. We have even found lots of newts in our school pond.
Congratulations to Buzzards for winning the Hastings Music Festival, Class Music Category 12/03/2020!
Falcons are loving Forest School this term!
Kestrels loved their African drumming workshop and were amazing at keeping the beat and using a range of rhythms.
Hawks class enjoying having the gym equipment out to end our gym unit in PE.
Buzzards have had a great time at Forest School during term 3. We ended our sessions with an African meal - Sweet Potato stew and Nsima. The stew was a great hit, with the children clearing any left overs! The recipe for the stew is below, should you wish to try it out at home.
Buzzards have loved their Forest School sessions; they have enjoyed exploring and creating together and have grown in confidence throughout the half term.
Sweet Potato Stew
Owls and Merlins had a great morning with the storyteller, John Kirk. We joined in telling the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ – it took all of us to pull it up! John then told Owls the story of ‘Goldilocks’ whilst Merlins explored the stories of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We loved every minute.
Michelle Piper our library volunteer, kindly manages the library display board for the children to help encourage a wide range of interest in topical subjects.
